Matrimony

“The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by it’s nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptised persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.”

Catechism of the Catholic Church (Found at: www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p2s2c3a7.html )

A sacrament is a visible sign that our invisible God is at work in the person receiving the sacrament. The Sacrament of Matrimony is unique amongst the sacraments for it, and it alone, is the covenant of a woman and man, with God, and each other through the priest as God’s witness and minister of the sacrament. Thus the married couple’s life is the visible sign of their sacrament; they journey together through the sacramental graces that help them to be holy, to be loving to each other and their children.
